Summer Fun Is Here!

Summer is finally here and we are fortunate that there is a whole lineup of summer fun just minutes away!

We start with Leyden Township’s “Wild Wild Westdale” on June 12 at 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Westdale Park, 3045 N. Sandra which will feature a car show, hayride, games, face painting, food trucks, a petting zoo and more! Admission free.

On June 17, at 7:00 p.m. The City of Northlake will offer a free summer concert by Paulie and the Shakers, a fun, versatile cover band featuring pop, rock, country and dance hits. Bring your snacks and lawn chairs to the Grant Park Gazebo at Lavergne and Golfview.

Also, on July 8, Veterans Park District’s Grant Park will have Movie in the Park, featuring “Harold and the Purple Crayon. The movie starts at sundown. There is free popcorn while supplies last. Bring your own chairs or blankets.

On July 10, from 5 to 10 p.m. and July 11 from noon to 10 p.m., Leyden Township has its American 250 Festival at Westdale Park featuring live music, food vendors and a kids zone.

Community Days by the City of Northlake, Leyden Township and the Veterans Park District runs July 24, 25 and 26 at Centerpoint Park and Grant Park. A carnival will run all three days, fireworks, food vendors and a DJ will be on Saturday, July 25, followed by a car show, Kiwanis pancake breakfast, bingo, touch a truck and inflate a fest on Sunday, July 26.

Then on August 14, from 6 to 9 p.m., Leyden Township is holding its “Party in the Park” at Westdale Park featuring face painters, bouncy houses, food trucks and a foam party.

On August 19, at 7 p.m., the City will hold another summer concert at the Grant Park Gazebo, featuring Yendez Cespedes Band with a diverse range of music from Mexico, Cuba, Spain, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Columbia and America, offering a unique and unforgettable musical experience.

Labor Day weekend, September 4 through 6 brings us the Taste of Melrose Park, held by the Village of Melrose Park, featuring entertainment and food vendors. Bring your appetite to this one. For a list of food vendors and entertainment visit www.melrosepark.org.

To wrap up the season, we have the Garage Sale by Leyden Township on September 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bradley A. Stephens Community Center, 2620 N. Mannheim, and the City wide garage sale in Northlake on September 18, 19 and 20. A list of participating homes will be available on the City’s website, NorthlakeCity.com, and at City Hall, 55 E. North Avenue.
