The playground at Millennium Park will be reconstructed next year as an “inclusive” playground which will be equally accessible to typical children and those with mobility impairment or cognitive challenges.

The sand play surface will be replaced with a rubber surface and other typical barriers will be removed. The goal is to get kids off of the sidelines and integrated and play together.

The existing playground equipment at Millennium Park is in relatively good condition and will be re-deployed to the City’s other parks.

The movement for inclusive playgrounds is gaining momentum and will be the standard for all playgrounds in the future. Construction will begin in the late spring and should be completed by fall.

On another note, the new senior residence building, Wisdom Village, located at 33 S. Wolf, was dedicated on October 20, and is fully occupied. It is located on the site of a former car wash and is part of a continuing program to develop the South Wolf Road corridor. I would like to thank the developer, Turnstone Development, for working through the many complexities of this project and bringing it to a successful conclusion.

I wish everyone a joyous holiday season and a happy and healthy New Year.
